About The Artwork

Chaos theory states that it isn't possible to measure all the factors that affect something in nature completely accurately and therefore be able to make a completely accurate prediction about something in the future (e.g. what the weather will be like in a week's time). The best you can hope for is probabilities. In the same way, if you start an abstract painting with no particular image in mind, small chance happenings such as how paint pools and runs on the surface of a canvas can lead the painting in very different directions. Ideas spark further ideas, and as you emphasize areas that you like and paint out other areas, the whole composition and color balance of the painting can easily change. To start this painting, I poured acrylics onto the canvas, which was placed flat on a table. I pressed various materials into the wet paint to make the circular shapes that you see, then isolated the ones that I liked and painted over the others. I then chose colours in the periphery that balanced the main red and deep blue focal areas. This work was built up from many layers of paint - pressed, poured, and glazed across the surface.. *SHIPS IN A TUBE* The canvas is painted on the sides and protected with a two-coat acrylic varnish.

I am an artist and writer with paintings in private and corporate collections in Turkey, the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia. I live in Adana, Turkey. I am a member of both local and national jury-selected artists' associations and often participate in Turkish-government sponsored exhibitions in other countries. I paint in both figurative and abstract styles, but most recently my interest has been in capturing the kind of details in nature that you would usually pass by without a second glance: things like weathered rocks, broken branches and dying leaves. The idea behind this 'Vanitas' series is perhaps that the value and beauty of the ordinary things in nature lies in their impermanence. Many of my works are built up of multiple layers over a long period of time − using a variety of techniques and tools. Layers of paint are poured, glazed, scratched, and rubbed away until the desired effect is achieved. Each exhibition I take part in brings me into contact with many artists and art lovers, whose feedback and reactions to my work I find invaluable. I continue to develop new techniques and explore new approaches in order to develop my personal response to the world around me.
