Courage Painting

1st in the "Inked Girls" series Portrait of a beautiful redhead with green eyes who has a rose tattoo on her neck and underneath, a script tattoo that says "Courage." Watercolor, graphite and ink 11x14 140 lb watercolor paper archival (treated with UV resistant acrylic coating) As I've learned in my artistic journey, it takes a lot of courage to be an artist. You put yourself and your work out there, to be judged by so many. Art is such a personal and subjective thing. Every piece of art speaks to someone, and evokes a response: an "Ooh" or an "Aah," a smile, feeling of anger, and even tears. That latter was me when I walked through the Musee D'Orsay in Paris where I saw life size pieces of my idols' works (Degas, Van Gogh, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, among many more). I think the sheer size of them, along with my proximity to the artwork, seeing every little brush stroke and movement, moved me to tears. I actually laughed at myself then, but I've begun to understand more and more each day the immense value art brings and the impact that art has to move people. My goal is to have my art find that specific someone that makes a connection with what I've created!
