About The Artwork

In this painting, I wanted to challenge myself by exploring abstract expressionism, because I spent my life doing realism and representationalism and have already perfected that. In general, I hope my artwork creates a way for you to connect with something deeper than yourself. I create an entry point, a point of communion that allows you and other viewers to decide where to go from there. Specifically for this piece, I hope you will enter into the flow of the divine dance, become part of the piece as you feel the electrical energy from the unseen realm, as well as experience particle time. I did not really select this subject matter, it naturally flowed out of my dance, act of painting, and some things I stated during a previous critique as I was slowly deconstructing myself. The entire painting was a continuous act of trust and letting go of 20+ years of control. I wanted to experiment with flow, resurrection, family, health, and moving from struggle to snuggle. This was more about the process in life than the product. I began building up an atmosphere. There was a partnership throughout. I felt fire build upon me as I finished the last color fill. The Lord directed me to flip the canvas and release energy; I mixed black, orange, and purple then flowing acrylics using my left hand black and white in my right hand, ambidextrous synchronous painting. During the next phase of this painting, I worked on layering things up. I used oil pastels and linseed oil to blend them. The final phase of the painting was the disintegration and reintegration between matter and spirit. The painting is applied on high-quality canvas and stretchers. Frame and hanging hardware are not included.

Paper bag sketches – this is where it all began for Jason. His first drawings found themselves on cut up brown paper bags, carefully cut into squares by his mother. Jason would soon become a known child prodigy in Kentucky and attend the state’s prestigious Governor’s School for the Arts as a teen. Now at 47, the emerging artist approaches a blank canvas with meditative mindfulness to create a spiritual flow in his pieces. It is what Jason calls a ‘divine dance.’ Using acrylic paint as his base, he mixes dance, drawing, painting, airbrush, typography and graphic design principles to express an interplay of multiple layers and textures.
