While studying art in New York City I was captivated by the stillness of the buildings serving as a backdrop to all the activity. This series is about movement and new life and activity emerging. The palette is paired down to add to the strong contrast against the background. I use acrylic and mixed media because it dries fast and I can scratch through the layers. This piece can be displayed as either horizontal or vertical.

While my background in Graphic Design, and Typography influences my compositional approach I am drawn to Abstract Expressionism where I can intuitively translate perceptions, experiences and thoughts into my work. The process is organic, beginning the paintings with gestural mark making and brush strokes. Layers are introduced in stages and the direction of the painting is informed and influenced by each previous mark and color resulting in a spontaneous execution that does not seek to represent concrete forms, but rather to create emotion in the observer inviting a personal interpretation and connection.
