This painting "Fire, Ice & Butterflies" is an original painting on 20x20 inch stretched canvas, and ready to hang out of the packaging. The sides are 1.5 inch deep, painted black, with the artist signature on the right hand side, and on the back of the canvas. This painting is also available in prints on paper. This piece was inspired by the impact of climate change on our planet's delicate ecosystems. The melting glaciers, and forest fires that have dramatic affects on the earth. Amidst these events, the population of bees across the globe serve as metaphors for the vulnerability of all living beings in the face of ecological upheaval. The juxtaposition of these elements creates a stark visual narrative, compelling viewers to confront the need for environmental stewardship and collective action in the face of climate crisis. My work draws inspiration from the idea that everything in nature is connected to everything else. Through carefully chosen materials, and mediums, compositions begin to encompass a journey through a multitude of layers that combine unconventional methods, gradually revealing a history of spatial interpretations. I explore space and form by intertwining markings with layers of paint and subtle transparencies, leading to the intersection of abstraction and the natural world. During the painting process, I am mapping out the underlying paint layers, collage, and drawing mediums. While some of this process is predetermined, other aspects arrive organically through subtracting and adding, carving, and peeling away paper and paint to reveal earlier parts of the work. My interest in transforming discarded things into art, is indicative of my upbringing where environmental consciousness was daily practice. The resulting multi-layered two-dimensional and repurposed three-dimensional works are metaphors for survival and hope, they serve as windows into natural landscapes and urban spaces, with pollution and consumerism hanging at the edges.

My work portrays my observations as an artist and a human being of the deep connection between plants and animals and the ecosystems in which they thrive. Each painting draws inspiration from the idea that everything in nature is connected to everything else. I explore space and form by intertwining gestural marks and drawings with thick layers of paint and subtle transparencies, leading to the intersection of abstraction and the natural world. During the painting process, I am mapping out the underlying paint layers, collage, and drawing mediums. While some of this process is predetermined, other aspects arrive organically through subtracting and adding, carving, and peeling away paper and paint to reveal earlier parts of the work. As I manipulate paint on the canvas, the compositions begin to encompass a journey through a multitude of layers that combine unconventional methods, gradually revealing a history of spatial interpretations as the final piece emerges. The resulting multi-layered abstract canvases serve as windows into natural landscapes and environments, with pollution and consumerism hanging at the edges. My works are metaphors for survival and hope. They attempt to elevate the viewer’s awareness of our involvement as human beings in our world’s case for eco-sustainability. Fran McNamara
