Inspired by a Gestapo museum in Denmark of the Nazi occupying forces while the country was under foreign control. From a fetishization of violence, and uniforms-- sexualization of authority and power. This romanticization and glorification of history alludes to a narrative doomed to repeat itself. Imagery and text floats backward and forward. A reddish haunting mask appears encased in the right corner and anthropomorphic human forms appear in various images famed in the background banners. Whip, daggers, brass knuckles, garrote, and handcuffs are theatrically set in a vitrine front and center. This cold charged history, remains isolated, a totemic reminder to the past and an object of contemplation. The word gestapo pops out in the top left of the painting, tracing it to its sources of inspiration: the Nazi occupying gestapo police force in these cities. A historical narrative marked by uprising and resistance.
