About The Artwork
With old family photographs as an inspiration I composed this group-portrait of a family roughly one-hundred years ago. I set it against a dramatic sky as a backdrop and used the fence as a hint to parallels we can see again to the depicted time. Now and then there were terrible people working abstract fears of the public to empower them in their racist agendas. Lies and propaganda led to one of the darkest times in Europe and the world culminating in the second world war. I see so many similar tendencies in our society that I see it as my task, to show the dangers we face. Not always in public, but in those sullen, hidden moments of the everyday life and in the normalization of racism, xenophobia and hate.
