About The Artwork

This particular work represents the duality in all aspects of life, the good and the bad. When we think negative thoughts negative experiences or events tend to pass, on the flip side I believe that the power of positive thinking is real. The title Happy Accident is ironic because so often when good things happen we think “oh, that’s just luck”. In reality we have the power to choose.

Emily Lovejoy, b. 1988, is a New Orleans based multidisciplinary artist focusing on painting, photography and ceramics. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art with an emphasis on painting from the University of New Orleans in 2012. Since then she has managed galleries, curated multiple group exhibitions. Lovejoy mainly examines identity through her portrait work, where the contrast between real and surreal is confronted through a lens of bold imagery and hypnogogic colors. Her subjects, seemingly existing in parallel worlds, tempt the viewer to stay and interpret their own projections. The goal is to invoke an emotional response with contemporary composition, and modern surrealism. In her painting as well as her photography it is essential for Lovejoy to record her subjects and capture not only their likeness, but also a sense of their personality and they time they live in. Her most recent body of work veers from portraiture and into the natural world, a shift that may be attributed to working in various mediums over the last 3 years. As a photographer Emily focuses on architecture, portraiture, and still life.
