A huldra is a seductive forest creature found in Scandinavian folklore. (Her name derives from a root meaning "covered" or "secret".) In Norwegian folklore, she is known as Huldra. She is known as the forest spirit. Huldra is a stunning woman of extraordinary beauty. She is often depicted with long hair and naked. In Norwegian folklore it is said that she can be identified as being one of these creatures by her cow's tail. There is a darker side of the Huldra's temperament. In the legends she is vengeful and bitter, often luring unwitting men into the forest only to kill them if they leave her unsatisfied. Upon marriage to a Christian man, her true self is shown, a hideously ugly being who often steals human babies from the villages in exchange for her own repulsive 'huldrebarn’. There is a more gentle side of the Huldra. In certain legends she is kind-hearted and sweet. However this is only if she is treated with respect; in one particularly dark tale she reacts to the betrayal of her husband by beating him about the ears with her tale, resulting in him becoming deaf and mad. Drawn with charcoal, body painted white tempera on linen canvas, stretched on a wooden frame. Ready to hang on the wall. Not framed and not needed but a thin frame of choice would look nice. Will be shipped in a box. Tempera is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium (egg, oil and water). Tempera paintings are very long lasting, and examples from the first century AD still exist. Egg tempera was a primary method of painting until after 1500 when it was superseded by the invention of oil painting. Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli are exampel of artists using tempera.
