About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by a joyful whale who was part of my first surfing experience. While we surfed, he breached right behind us. After the lesson, he slapped his flukes repeatedly, like a dog wagging its tail. (And, that day there was a dog surfing contest happening.) He seemed to want join in the fun. Since I couldn't take him home with me, I decided to paint him instead. This is part painting, part collage. I painted papers to match the painting's colors and then added collage of those papers for texture to portray the splashing waves.
