About The Artwork

Kanha Kahna the Hindu God of protection, compassion, tenderness and love, is worshipped by Hindus as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This beautiful artwork depicts Lord Krishna, playing his symbolic flute. This unique artwork has been created in a different painting style. Specifically, the brush strokes are very different from my style of art creation. Here I have tried out a new way of painting, the brush I used is a round and stub brush and it is held upright and just dabbed onto the canvas to give it a patchy appearance. For the background, the same technique has been used, but here I have used 3 different colors (white, blue and purple) on the brush at the same time (These colors are symbols of peace, tranquility and calmness). This helps the colors to blend well with each other and gives the background of the artwork a very half-done, stone like appearance. The same technique has been used throughout this piece. Lord Krishna has always been depicted in the color blue. The reason behind this is that - Blue is the color of infinity, as in the sky, it extends up and seems never ending, it has no boundaries. Similarly, Lord Krishna is infinite he has no boundaries and hence he is blue. Scrolling through the internet I stumbled upon a video describing the life of Lord Krishna and at one point I even paused the video to reflect on what I had just heard. That was the very moment of inspiration for me, and I decided to create this beautiful piece, which depicts infinite love that knows no boundaries. The emotion of love is so pure and divine that one can feel a sense of selfless affection and fondness towards whatever he/she puts his/her heart to. It could be a family member, a friend, a pet, a child, God or even an inanimate thing, like a home, car, or one's own country etc. I just needed to make this artwork, and it definitely gave me a lot of peace of mind and happiness in its creation.

The inclination towards painting and art was a natural transition. Being the daughter of an Architect who was an extraordinary artist himself meant that Ritina was exposed to drawings, precision, structure and expression of art from a very young age. Though, she did engage in painting during her academic years, it was more of a hobby and pass time activity whenever she needed to empty her mind and relax, which just faded away unknowingly as if pushed to the back burner. During her formative years, she engaged in a great deal of painting techniques, like fabric painting, art on pottery, and wooden surfaces, all just a source of enjoyment. It wasn’t till very recent times that she really started pursuing this passion seriously. Her works of art have been sold and gifted to a lot of her friends and family. The recent years have been an interesting journey, where she looks back and see’s the transformation of an amateur to a more professional level as an artist. However, the more interesting part has been her enjoying every single moment of this journey. The more she learns, the more she realizes, how much she does not know about the infinite spectrum of art! Living in the peaceful town of Tennessee, USA, has been a blessing, as it has let Ritina explore and express her creativity through every new piece of art she creates. Losing track of time when engrossed in art is so very true for this artist, who toils for perfection, by giving each piece of artwork her true heart and soul. So rightly said in her own words – “Each piece of my artwork is like a piece of me being reflected through it. They are me in the form of a painting.” Guess it is true that when passion becomes profession, you never work again! A self-taught artist, with no training in the field of art and painting, she has reached her present level of skill through practice and watching other artists at work on the internet. She enjoys using various surfaces, mediums and textures for painting and is always keen to try out something new. Doing commissioned artwork is a challenge which gives her an opportunity to stretch her limits even further. Recently, she ventured into portrait painting too, which is a whole new arena by itself. Basically, her preferred medium has always been acrylics, due to its speedy drying time. Sometimes the use of oils, where blending and creating textures, has always been simpler, also indulges her.
