About The Artwork
I discovered this hidden treasure on Kuramayama mountain, a sacred mountain near Kyoto, Japan. Best known for Kurama Dera temple this mountain has a lot more to offer. Along the way connecting two villages there are many small temples and shrines. One of them was this little hidden gem. Off to the side of the tracks and behind a lot of old trees and a fence it could only be admired from a distance. So I took out my sketchbook and started to sketch. The painting was made more than a year later, back home in my studio. I only needed my sketches for the dimensions, because the image of the little wooden shrine was still so present before my inner eye.
