About The Artwork

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 40" x 1.5" After I visited the Latin/ Spanish Marketplace in San Antonio, Texas for the first time, I was surprised by the assortment and variety of handmade items and figurines, each one of them painted in decorative, bright folklore-like patterns. The choice of cheerful colors of the crafted items was so immense that it was almost infinite, and it was very hard for me to decide which of the crafts to buy as souvenirs. I took some photographs in my process of decision-making, and later at home after printing them, I came to a realization that the variety of all options and colors are more striking than just one or two of the objects alone. That revelation later led to my new oil painting. I "arranged” the various items on the painted wooden bookshelf, paying attention to the shapes and colors of each figurine. As a final step, I painted the reflective highlights and shadows of each object making them look three-dimensional and I also painted the cast shadows from each piece on the “imagined” bookshelf. In conclusion, this painting is not a “still life” painted from an arrangement of real objects. No, this painting was made by initial reference to photographic materials, then arranging them on a make-believe bookshelf, and finalized by using my own imagination and experience. EXHIBITIONS: 2014 Old Post Office Museum, Graham, TX; Texas Spirit Art Show 2014 NOAS (National Oil and Acrylic Society), Spring 2014 International Online Exhibit

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work defies simple categorization, riding an edge between abstraction and realism. The medium I choose for any given work is determined by the concept and the idea I wish to convey. My favored subjects are majestic natural landscapes, traditional folk art from Eastern Europe, as well as my view on situations that attract my attention. Often psychological leitmotifs drive my subject matter. I also rely on travel for inspiration. Upon return from a trip, I head straight to my studio while the impressions are still fresh. My creative process is similar to organic growth that emerges over time; it may take weeks or months to develop and complete each piece. My work has been included in a number of art exhibitions thought the US and internationally in Berlin and Romania. National venues include Katy Contemporary Art Museum, Katy, Texas; Fine Art Museum in Gadsden, Alabama; North Gallery Department of Art and Design of San Jacinta College, Houston, Texas; Nicolet Gallery at Nicolet College, Wisconsin; Lawndale Art Center, Houston, Texas; and Dacia Gallery, New York City, NY; among others. Additionally, my work has been selected for exhibitions by the National Association of Women Artists; Oil Painters of America; and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. I participated in several International artist residencies in Romania and in Berlin, Germany, where I also participated in a public art intervention in East Berlin. I received several awards and honors, including a Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Art for my oil paintings. My work has been included in many publications including Houston Downtown Magazine, Houston Chronicle, Art Studio, Local Houston Magazine, ArtAscent Magazine, and Art Blocks Houston amongst other publications. I was selected among 79 artists of the United States to be published in the book Art Buzz “The 2014 Collection, Volume 7." Most recently, I have been recognized for my Ukrainian style painting, “Roses and Hearts on the Blue Sky," a part of the Art Blocks Houston project that was installed on the façade of 901 Main Street, Houston in the summer of 2016. I was born in Ukraine, attended 4-year intensive art training in School of Art in Ukraine, Museum of Fine Arts Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX and received a BA in Architecture and Master’s Degree in Planning. I live and work in Houston, TX, where I also maintain my art studio. .
