About The Artwork
Long Island Landscape Most of my paintings are inspired by being outdoors, especially the ocean, sky, wind, the tide, trees etc. They are informed by post-war Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism and Japanese brush drawings. I love working with oil paint to create different textures and glazes and to blend colours on the canvas. In this painting, I experimented with indigo in the background by painting it very sparingly and lightly, next to the green and blue which were thicker with obvious brush marks. The composition is balanced but not perfectly symmetrical. I hope that viewers can enjoy the visual qualities of the painting in their own right, alongside the title to tweak the imagination.
