Painted circa 1988, Inspiration: Jean-Paul Sarte's novel "The age of reason" set in bohemian Paris of the late 1930s. Painting shows philosophy teacher Mathieu bringing flowers to his lover Marcelle. Artist notes: From memory, "I was so taken with the feeling of the novel, I grabbed the nearest board and paints". It was done "Alia Prima" in oil on cardboard. (No pre drawing was ever done, the painting was done in one continuous session) My Sister in NZ sold the original in 2009 with my blessing to a collector in NZ from an ebay style auction company.
