About The Artwork

Personal memories Physical, inanimate objects are often vessels which hold our personal memories. I feel the lack of these objects when I am not in my childhood home. Items can be precious because of the memories attached to them. I create memory based sculptures by reversing the way these objects become precious. Usually a memory is attached to a pre-existing object. In my work I create the object based on the memory. The sculptures represent a slice of tangible, physical reality. For my paintings I use my own photos to capture the atmosphere of my memories. I intentionally chose to paint small scale to exaggerate the object-like nature of the canvas and the painting itself. I aprpoached painting in a different way by building up each painting from the background to the foreground and painting the objects in later. I intentionally left out any people so there would be no narrative in the paintings - only an impression of my personal memory. As well as the play of the lights and shadows, I am interested in approaching this with projection techniques to explore the layering of memories/projections of photographs on physical objects. The connection between objects and projected photos can emphasize common characteristics or differences. The projection hitting the 3D surface of the objects distorts the image of the memory. The distortions are emphasised in the paintings, adding an abstract quality. For this project I am planning to connect my belongings of the present and the memories of the past to examine how I have personally changed and what has remained the same.

I was born in Debrecen, Hungary in 1991.I have been studying art from a young age. I studied art in Medgyessy Ferenc Secondary School where I learnt from Kővári Attila. I finished a two year painting course(my tutors: Süli Zakar Szabolcs and Szabó Károly). In 2012 I moved to Dublin to study art at the National College of Art and Design where I have been studying painting since. I make mostly figurative art and as for the painting style I prefer loose and expressive brushstrokes.
