About The Artwork

* Due to the logistical disruption caused by the ongoing Covid pandemic, delivery of original paintings may take upto 4 months after purchase. Prints will be delivered on schedule. Please bear with us* I work within a concept I invented, called MokshaShots. In eastern philosophy, ‘Moksha’ means salvation. A MokshaShot, by definition, is a taste of the Sublime. Ihad this idea that since we probably won’t get to full-fledged Moksha in this lifetime, we can get a glimpse of it. Everyone can make their own MokshaShot out of anything they find fulfilling – art, chocolate, sex, a vacation, a Ferrari or a tequila shot! I have created deities called MokshaPets. Each of them represents an aspect of the Self. Each of the major deities has a Mandala painting of his/her own. The traditional Thangka or Mandala painting was used as an aid during meditation. In my work, this process is likened to how we create gods out of products, people and experiences, as objects of contemplation. This eventually leads to mind space being conquered by them. Consumerism is now the new secular religion. This work is part of the series titled ‘Liberation Thru Consumption’. It is titled ‘Mokshasura Mandala’. Mokshasura is the Necessary Evil (like taxes, Splenda and capitalism). His mantra is ‘I’m a Chocolate Flavored Evil’. Arguably indispensable in today’s economy, he’s a small (if not large) part of us all!
