Paris-Roubaix 2013 - "Hell of the North" Painting

After he won in 1981, Hinault spat out a damning description of the famed Spring Classic - the Paris-Roubaix. He called it "un cochonnerie - a pig of a race". Yet the gruelling conditions that can make the race such a lottery are also what the race so special. In these days of mollycoddled sport stars, this Monument classic requires that its winner be ready and willing to handle thick mud, dusty slippery cobblestones, wet cobblestones and/or icy roads. However much the science behind cycling improves - this race requires the battling determination that marked out the winners of the past.
