About The Artwork

My art has been a long exploration. Trained as a classic oil painter yet drawn to many different materials. loving the portrait, the figure, an object, a clear sharp image yet drawn to abstraction. I’d work through a concept, leave it at a few pieces and move on. I’ve enjoyed the process however it has kept me from really sharing my work. I’ve kept and cataloged so many materials, scraps from different works as well as anything I’ve simply found that would otherwise be trash. “Why are you keeping that?” “I’m going to use it one day.” The piles mounting I’d work through ideas of how to clear out yet catalog these tangible pieces for myself in a clean tight way. Do I torch everything like Baldessari I’d ask myself. I may be happy, it wouldn’t have the slightest chance to add to the conversation though, it certainly wouldn’t mean anything. These were no longer just piles of things they were years of experiences of memories. They built residue over time while simultaneously collapsing it. Moving pieces around in late 2020 / early 2021 I tossed a pile of thick dry paint pieces into an empty frame that had been scraped off of another painting. I loved the composition and out of nowhere had my concept. I’m thrilled to start sharing my work and look forward to digging deeper. Residue II 2021 Plaster, Paper, Fabric, Ink 12” x 12”

As a process-driven artist, I react to materials in a direct and intuitive sense. Exploring representation through a continuum of mediums, I look to find points of contact between my conceptual self and the environment I am embedded in. Constantly attuning to ordinary affect through perception my artistic experience is made whole. Informed through a range of disciplines, I work alongside the history of art and thought in an effort to enrich my experience and aid in my quest to find new forms of representation. Across mediums, I am drawn to the abstract found within the deterioration of material, objects, and form.
