About The Artwork
Ramapo No. 1 is the first of a four part suite created with the molten iron painting technique I developed in 2008. This was made in November 2013 as a visiting artist at Ramapo College in New Jersey. The suite is the first to incorporate small "vignettes" of earlier work as collage elements. Gold leaf and metal leaf are signature elements of my work in 2013.

In 2002 I received my MFA from Hunter College in New York City where I also studied abroad at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London. My work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the U.S. and Europe and I have been reviewed in numerous publications such as ARTnews, The NY Times, The New Yorker and The Village Voice. I'm trained as a sculptor, but I've been developing a process using 2800 degree molten iron as a painting medium. I'm the founding member and main organizer of New York City's only molten iron performance group, the Manhattan Iron Project.
