Oil on canvas from the series Lomopaintings. Lomopaintings stems from the theories of Fukuyama and his "End of History." This concept, already advocated by Marx, heir to the Hegelian thought, argued that the direction of historical development contained a specific intent by the interaction of forces materials, and would come to an end when the communist utopia is reached. For Hegel, the contradictions that drive history exist first in the field of human consciousness, namely the world of ideas, in the sense of broad unifying vision of the world, better understood under the name of ideology. I understand this concept not only as political and social doctrine, but also in the moral, cultural and religious sense. The fall of communism, therefore, as the last great utopia, meant the final establishment of liberalism. In this concept this raises the possibility of a denial of a better future, and therefore the end of historical evolution, with painting being an example of this. This loss of direction and other fundamental characteristics of Postmodernism as a lack of faith in the political and religious systems, becomes, in my opinion, a general sense of social nostalgia and melancholy. Nostalgic times perhaps governed by ideologies and loaded with a directional sense. With my project I want to link these concepts with the return of past trends, both aesthetically and technologically, and more specifically with the revival of analog photography. This resurgence answers, in my opinion, several of the proposed questions. The lack of group membership and the unconscious melancholy are perfectly reflected in this phenomenon. In particular, the unconscious melancholy, because in real terms, we are children of that melancholy. Our generation has not experienced the fall of the great ideologies, but it has grown into the despair of this defeat and is unsure of exactly what or who to blame. This fact joins the current bleak view plaguing Europe, the birthplace of Western culture. The north-south divide, the current crisis and the consequent lack of faith in current systems lies in the shelter of a better past and a sense of disconnection with it. I tried with my project to talk about this back to analog approach, best with the best analog system known, painting. The project is realized using both a series of oil paintings imitating the aesthetics of the "Lomography" cameras and their image distorsions. These works have their theme around vintage aesthetic, olds cafes or abandoned places in Berlin which have been adapted for various uses. The “new” old style Spreepark, the old communist factories, or flohmark are perfect reflections of the taste for nostalgia and for the past. The characters portraid in my work are also charged that melancholy, are distracted and uncomfortable at the moment, seeking a refuge in a more confortable past utopia.
