About The Artwork
Madrigal is the first of a series called "Seeing Sound." Making a visual expression of music is not a new concept but this is the first time I've seriously approached the attempt. While painting, I listened to madrigals and painted what my mind saw as a response to the sound. I found myself painting layer over layer of crimson, yellow and white. I chose a limited palette to imitate the small number of voices that sing madrigals. I used both brushes and palette knives, often scraping or dragging the knives for various effects.
