My images try to pin down the experience, describe phenomena on the periphery glimpsed through movement in space, the elemental and otherness of nature and experience rather than the natural image. Hence, the recording in “abstract” terms of the experience. I am interested in mark-making to imitate but not describe natural elements; the expressive brushstrokes and forms in the compositions to indicate movement; making forms to hold “marks-as-nature” in new compositions and to indicate a space, which still speaks of nature. My recent work has developed this into an exploration where spontaneity, chance and play are next to considered time-based events- where you get chaos and movement juxtaposed alongside more sober considered mark making.Sins of the Poet refers to the necessary errors and mistakes made in pursuit of art.

Gabrielle’s paintings are recognisable for their beautiful use of colour, gestural mark-making and sense of movement; and evidence her embrace of the notion of chance in both her subject matter and her painting technique. "I like my art to show the layers of where I’ve been and the thoughts and process of how I got there – to have the experimentation and introspection built into the composition. I aim to express an elemental truth of what the world is like (from one artists point of view) in 21st Century, through paint. My most successful artworks capture the synergy of movement, musicality and process. When these elements come together in the studio, it is sheer joy – to me, painting is the “Juice” of life." Gabrielle has held 17 solo shows in three states & including Goulburn Regional Gallery, Gallery Grefiti and the Museum La Rocca in Umbertide, Italy. Gabrielle has been appointed “Artist in Residence” at Bundanon; in Tahiti and Bora Bora; Valparaiso, Spain; Artscape Toronto, Canada; and at Tweed Regional Gallery. She has been appointed drawing instructor 2012 Sydney Biennale events; curated two exhibitions at Coorah Contemporary Gallery; won or been highly commended in a number of prizes including the William Fletcher Trust Grant; and included as a finalist Fleurieu Biennale, Portia Geach, Mosman, Norville, Muswellbrook, Calleen, St George, Duke Gold Coast; Korea Australia Art Foundation and Fishers Ghost Art Awards. Her work has been selected in curated shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, New York and Korea; acquired by Muswellbrook Regional Gallery; and included in public and private collections in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, the Netherlands, New York, Canada, Italy and London
