About The Artwork
Skipper’s Smokehouse is an icon in Tampa, Florida, for great live music and food. I’ve relaxed there many times and I decided to paint this watercolor of it in its heyday. The watercolor artist Tony Couch and his loose, lush and bold figuration inspired me to tackle this image. It has one a first place at the 2022 Florida State Fair and a “Best of Show” at the Tampa Regional Artists 2021 exhibition in Tampa. I hope it’s viewers will pick up on its island vibe and rustic, ramshackle look. Watercolor is my favorite medium for depicting realistic images.
