As a resident of Birmingham, Alabama I have been captured by the presence of this structure each and every time that I see it. The landmark is overwhelming in its size and yet from most passing vantage points is rather insignificant. The energy that was produced in the past still has presence, and the work performed and accomplished still whispers as if ready to start again at any moment. Each and every element of the facility shouts with color that changes with every viewpoint and change of light. Orange to green, brown to red. Sloss speaks with ever changing light. I can only imagine the heat, the sweat and the effort of so many individuals, set forth at the time to fulfill a need to produce. With that, it my desire to capture my impressions, emotions and the beauty of such a monumental landmark of the city.
