Another piece in this series exploring children's engagement and disengagement in activity. Featured are my two daughters who are vastly different in the way they interact with the world and their chosen activities: one is engaged, focussed and always busy, the other daydreams and looks on.

Over time I have noticed that regardless of imagery, my work naturally holds feelings of melancholy, pathos, or a dreamy state. There is a sense of something ending or softening, a dying light, the end of a summers day or something slipping out of reach. I have an interest in finding imagery through a random, sometimes destructive process. I search for hints and suggestions which emerge through this often playful technique. Winner of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year (2018).
