The four-piece monumental cycle that at first glance seems abstract actually realistically depicts crumpled tissues washed in the back pocket of a pair of jeans. These are “unworthy” everyday images; even worse: they are images of the most banal “trash”. A perverse banalisation of “real” painting. The formal execution of the works is faultless and refers to older painting styles. When faced with the average viewer’s concept of what painting is, Pregl’s works seem to completely desacralise it. But it is precisely through the introduction of the almost unimaginable – everyday, banal and worthless elements – to painting that these works reintroduce vitality to the medium, providing the conditions that will enable it to continue to enter the Groysian museum which is not intended for showing art that is old and “dusty”, but vigorous and alive.
