This classical portrait of a red-haired woman wearing a bright indigo top and sitting on a dark blue and purple background is one of Zakhar Shevchuk’s academic realistic artworks. However, when you step closer to the surface you will notice that the artist is still faithful to his concept of simplifying artworks to the point when nothing “excessive” is left and only important and significant elements remain. What at first glance may seem as rough and even clumsy brushstrokes of oil paint turns into the perfectly balanced and detailed picture when you take a few steps back from its surface, with each element exactly where the artist intended them to be. Composition of the artwork and slightly unusual angle of the viewpoint (it seems that you look at the figure slightly from below) increase a sense of focus and tranquillity of the painting depicting a young lady lost in her thoughts. The artwork will be shipped carefully and safely rolled in a durable plastic tube. Rolled artworks can easily be re-stretched.

Art, to me, is a profound exploration of the world that surrounds us - a journey of discovery, experience, and self-understanding. It is a medium through which I unravel the essence of things - their colors, forms, and the interplay between them. I believe in the power of simplicity, in the art of removing the excess and uncovering the necessary, much like a sculptor chisels away at stone. In my paintings, I strive to distill forms to their purest essence, reaching a point where nothing else can be removed without sacrificing meaning. The "necessary" elements, as I perceive them, remain, serving as conduits for my impressions and self-reflections on the subject at hand. My aim is not to depict something specific but rather to transfer the emotions and thoughts evoked by the object onto the canvas. I seek artistic forms that can boldly and vividly capture the essence of these feelings, rather than mere visual representation. In this pursuit, my work often exists on the precipice between figurative and abstract art - place where emotions take precedence over strict visual interpretation. Through my art, I invite viewers to embark on their own contemplative journeys, to interpret the subtleties and engage with the interplay of emotions and forms. Each brushstroke carries the weight of my perceptions, inviting you to join me in this exploration of the human experience. zakhar@klossart.com
