About The Artwork

Our life is one big theater full of animals. Its funny how people are associated with beasts by their characteristics. A pig is dirty and unhygienic, a crab pull people’s reputation down, a snake steals love ones away, and a shrimp is somebody who has an excellent body but has unattractive facial features (that’s why you don’t eat shrimp’s head, hence tapon ulo). Only a few are associated with positive characteristics. A sole example depicted is the water buffalo. A strong person is referred to as “malakas parang kalabaw”. What would these animals say to us if they can only speak? I have some ideas.

I paint visual narratives. I try to visualize information, issues, contradictions, scenarios, events, fallacies, and realities of life and weave everything into a story. Lately, my work has been focusing on social and political visual narratives. Most of the time, I use symbolism and prefer to create a scene with elements seemingly disconnected from each other.
