I was reading an essay on witch craft in Medieval Europe when I came to the second phase of working on this painting, which had started out resembling an acquaintance of mine, who by coincidence had something witchy about them. It was the realisation of the terrible price paid for being accused of witchcraft during this time, and how so many people suffered the horrific fate of being tortured, before being publicly burnt at the stake, that enabled me find what was needed to bring the painting to completion.
