This painting is about a young boy (actually representing a young nation) at the time in history around World War ll when many were dying for the cause of freedom. The soda machine and the flag are in the background and add to illustrating the theme of a young nation thirsting for freedom. “Thirst for Freedom” has been selected in the top 11 (tying for fifth place) of the “World’s Best Contemporary Acrylic/Figure Paintings” as picked by “20 of USA’s Best Galleries and Museums” for the American Art Awards. It is arguably the most prestigious online art competition. This painting was chosen for the magazine cover image of the August 2022 edition of Artorful Magazine. David Haley was chosen as featured artist for this issue. An article appeared about him along with 10 images of his other paintings. Artorful is an international network of 2100+ artists. “Thirst for Freedom”, was awarded second place by Artorful in an international competition from hundreds of entries from all over the world! “Thirst for Freedom”, tied for second place in the 4th COLOR International Juried Art Competition sponsored by Art Show International Gallery. There were 256 artists from 40 countries in this competition. This is the fourth award this painting has received. 2-6-2022 - I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful comments and likes on my post on Nextdoor about receiving this award for my painting “Thirst for Freedom“. Haley is a self-taught, award-winning artist. He developed an interest in painting when his mother gave him a "Paint by Numbers" painting set as a child. He has worked in healthcare all of his life and presently is retired and lives in Parkland, Florida. His last position was Chief Operating Officer at the largest hospice in Indiana. This end-of-life work has contributed to his forming a unique outlook on life and how he views the world, which has undoubtedly influenced his artistic creations. His art style has wide appeal and ranges from abstract to realism. His paintings are found hanging in many private collections across the United States. He has won a number of international juried art competitions.
