About The Artwork

The geisha were the professional entertainers in Japan. you can still find them, but the profession is dying out. The geisha were highly trained. They could sing and dance and keep a conversation going in an elegant way. They elaborate kimono (more than one at the time) were often pieces of art - precious silks with prints and embroideries made by artists famous in this field. The obi (the very wide belt worn with the kimono) was tied in different ways - always given an impression of elegance. The hairstyle is also very elaborate - decorated with flowers, elaborately carved or painted combs and long hair pins. The white make up is particular also - the face and neck was painted white with only a small part on the back of the neck left in the natural skin color. Lips are painted small - like a cherry and a dip of red in the corner of the eyes finished this spectacular look. The painting has a background painted with a mix of silver and gold acrylic paint. The sides of the canvas are painted so no frame is needed. The artwork has a small symbol on the front and is signed on the back - it is ready to hang.

I was born in Denmark, and have been drawing and painting since early youth. I have lived in Germany and France, where I had my own fashion brand. I moved to Italy in 2000 and decided to give up fashion design and devote myself full-time to painting -- a decision I have never regretted. My chief source of inspiration are the many diverse cultures I have come across during my numerous trips. I always loved beautiful textiles, but I also draw inspiration from the shapes and color combinations of the traditional arts of China, Korea and Japan, and African and Oceanic tribal art. And I should not forget to add that I just love flowers and gardens - always an inexhaustible source of inspiration. I hope that the my paintings convey to the viewer something of the visual stimulation and excitement that I feel when I have created a new work.
