About The Artwork

In harvest 2014 I visited the Foundation Beyeler in Basel Switzerland to take a view on the "Betty" by Gerhard Richter. The original painting is only 102 x 72 cm a little bit too small I thought. Viewing the original I found out a few interesting things. The background of the original, is not red like in the low quality Internet shots, its dark green, what increases the red of her jacket to the maximum. Richter painted Betty from light to dark. The modern oilcolour allows him this technique. The most complicated was to analyse his wipetechnique because it produces the typical Richter-Fuzzyness. I found out, that he let dry the colours about 6 hours, than uses a paintthinner saturated brush to dissolve the topmost level of the oilcolour. Voila! I decided to paint her but with more light and bigger than the original. Also in 2014 I visited the reopening of the Mauritshuis in Den Haag (Netherland). The girl with the pearl earring fascinated me. The painting is only 45 x 40cm big but the painting is so outstanding, that I must look into it for over one hour. Jan Vermeer painted it 1665 from dark to light because the old oil colours had not such a good colour coverage like todays colours. It looks like overlayed watercolour. I had to copy her using the modern oil colours, by painting it with more solvent containing colour, to get the same effect like Jan. I also wanted to paint her bigger an with much more light in her face, as if she looks into a large spotlight, because she should be the central figure in my "Zwei Freundinnen" (Two girlfriends). I made three studies of this painting, like the Three studies of Lucien Freud from Francis Bacon. Why should I copy this well known two paintings? First of all because its antideterminstic. At first market artists never ever would copy an artwork. Thats why antideterministic artists should fake some well known artworks. Second, only a few people can see them. But you cant declaire them, because language isnt able to disclose the things. Language presents these artworks at best, as a secret. While painting them you solve secrets. Of course I wanted to learn the technique of this outstanding two artists. But why three paintings, of the "Two girlfriends"? Nowadays the situation of the "normal" artists, clearly deteorated, compared with the about 1000 "first class artists" in the world. Thats because of the ubiquitous information systems. Also the normal or local collectors have the information to buy a first class painting. The result is a dichotomy of the artists scene. There are two kinds of artists, the excluded artists, and the included artists, which earn millions of dollars. And there is no friendship between them both. I wish parties could be friends, and because female artists are a new equal category in the 21. century, they could be "girlfriends". And I am between this both parties. - I am Nr. 3. Three studies of Zwei Freundinnen III, 150 x 120 x 5cm 59.1 x 51.2 inch oil on canvas 2015. This is the third and last of three studies of two girlfriends. The first one and the second are still sold :) www.eckhard-besuden.de

Besuden is painting antideterministic art. For the first time at the beginning of the new century (2005) in London the question is raised, whether deterministic attributes of modern painting (new, authentic, antidecorative, scandalous) must be fundamentally reconsidered. In 2009 the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published a report about the Transition Gallery in London, and their new appreciation of art under the heading: 'we need more dilettantes'. In this case the scandal is not intended to create a better saleability. Art musnt be no longer new, authentic, anti-decorative to be serious art. The anti-deterministic artist is allowed to paint old, anti-authentic, decorative but in a new dogmatical style. With every peace of art, corresponding with the above mentioned characteristics, the artists turns against the dictate of the ruling dogmatics. He is pursuing art policy by intentionally ignoring the quality requirements of the first art market and thus he regains absolute artistic freedom. www.eckhard-besuden.de
