About The Artwork
In May I traveled from Tokyo to Kanazawa, by bullet train and spent the 3 hour journey sketching in watercolours. We passed by the Japanese Alps and these enormous mountains dominated the landscape. I painted this mountain range in Toyama several times, here in black ink on somerset paper using my large Japanese brush. I added gold leaf (Kanazawa is famed for its abundance of gold and you can drink gold leaf tea or have it sprinkled on your macha green ice cream!). While I was in Japan I had my 'name' stamp made and I've used it on all the works I've created working from this trip.

Hi! I'm a British artist based in Cambridge I take my inspiration from my travels. I work in watercolors, acrylic, ceramic sculpture and love drawing. Often I abstract and reduce a landscape expressing the energy and atmosphere through gestural brush marks. I enjoy East Asian travel and art works, often I use gold leaf, Japanese paints and papers, working with Japanese brushes. When I'm not working in my studio I teach art at the Fitzwilliam museum. My family are based in the beautiful South West of England by the coast and in South West France - again by the sea! I love being by the coast whenever I can.
