About The Artwork

This work is inspired by a woman with a thoughtful attitude, absorbed in her thoughts and with uncertainties. The red and green colors provide a strong contrast that gives the work dynamism and expressiveness. An elegant woman, who has everything materially but lacks something uncertain. The work is painted in acrylic on a cardboard prepared with gesso and marble dust, which gives it a very material and expressive texture. This work to be painted on cardboard requires to be framed

Born in Barcelona (Spain). An admirer of German Expressionism and French Fauvism, Guillermo Martí Ceballos uses color as the main means of expression in his painting. Son of the painter Oriol Martí Valls, from a very young age he made contact, through the hand of his father, with the trade of painting. He is studying graphic design and drawing at the Massana School in Barcelona. Later he became part of the Cercle Artístic de Sant LLuc and later at the Boter Santaló school in Barcelona. For a few years he alternated his facet as a graphic designer and illustrator with painting. His work is figurative, "but if he “imitates” nature, it is rather to transcend it, to reinterpret it, depending on his sensitivity and knowledge…" - as expressed by the poet and philologist Josep M. Fulquet in the prologue of the book The emotion of color edited on the artist's work. The motifs in his paintings are the motifs that nature offers him, both landscapes and figures as well as abstractions, although especially the female figure and face acquire special relevance in his work. For this artist, the essential thing in art is to transmit sensations and emotions through beauty, rhythm and chromatic harmonies. According to the artist himself, he expresses “Harmony, creativity, rhythm, composition and unity should be for the artist the pillars of art, superfluous beauty, description or anecdote often hide from us the most essential of art. "I think that the painter -Martí Ceballos continues with his reflections- acts like a musician with his musical notes, he introduces sounds (colors), rhythms (lines and strokes) and silences (empty spaces) that make up his melody . One note leads to another note, a chord to another chord, a rhythm to another rhythm and both may or may not require silence, he goes on composing without knowing where he will arrive guided by intuition and reason in the right balance. The result will be marked by the intensity of his emotion.” In addition to working as a graphic designer and illustrator, many of his works have been published on different covers of books and magazines. Since 1996 he has exhibited his work regularly in different galleries in Spain, work that today is also distributed in countries such as France, Holland, Germany, Italy, Russia, Mexico and the United States.
