About The Artwork

Original acrylic painting with texture on canvas (mixed media), gallery wrap with painting around edges. This piece features different shades of blue for the sky, bright greens for the grass in the forefront, and dark greens and deep purples for the mountains in the background, as well as neutral tones from white, soft creams and browns to dark browns and black for the hawks, Native man, and black and white paint horse. The detailed head of the hawk also features a deep blue-grey colored eye. The flying hawk and hawk head are painted while the hawk in the middle has different shades of color for highlights painted and clear texture on top. The Native man and his horse are both textured and painted, with the horse also featuring Native symbols in white, yellow, and blue, and both the Native man and horse are adorned with hawk feathers with red binding. Purchase the original painting through Ellsworth Gallery; visit kathycopsey.com for more details! For many Native Americans, the Red-Tailed Hawk is considered a great messenger from the spirit realm, a gatekeeper of the East, a Guardian of the Earth Mother, and warriors of truth, often bringing us guidance and protection from the ancestors when we need it most. They can bring us warnings because sometimes there may be a danger present whether we're aware of it or not, but the Hawk and ancestors protect us and guide us to safety. Sometimes, the Hawk will help bring us messages of insight and help us to learn to see the big picture. Often we must learn to let go of old habits and past ways that no longer serve us and learn to clear our minds so we can make room for the new and move forwards. Sometimes we may be so focused on what lies in front of us that we can't see past our current dilemma to see the solution. We must learn to step back and see the whole picture rather than just focusing on the finite details of what is directly in front of us. This takes patience and time to learn, but is an extremely important lesson to learn. We must learn to shift our perception of thinking that negative things are happening to us and rather as positive things happening for us. Each situation we experience in life are stepping stones, helping us along our journey, but we must be willing to grow and see this truth. There are times we may feel lost or trodden down in life, but if we look to our ancestors and guides, we will see they are always there with us every step of the way. Learn to see and hear the messages the ancestors bring you, whether it be in the form of dreams, people put into our lives to help us, or through the appearance of animals and birds there to guide us like the Hawk. Take the time to enjoy all the positive things and others around you. There is great beauty in this amazing world, but sometimes we have to stop and remember to see and enjoy it. Never be afraid to be your unique self; each and every single Red-Tail Hawk has unique coloring and markings and is just as beautiful as the rest. And, most of all be grateful for the ancestors' guidance, help, and protection, have faith for they will guide and protect you and bring you wisdom along your journey, and never stop fighting for your hopes and dreams.
