About The Artwork

From my 'Untitled Series' 2014 Collage, oil, acrylic, charcoal and pastel on stretched canvas. This painting is on a hand-built canvas frame with stretched canvas. Strips from intended acrylic paintings which I tore off and then protected with matt protectorate were then archivally glued onto the canvas. I then painted over these strips, leaving some uncovered and some covered. I utilized oil paint, charcoal and pastel to then ultimately bring the painting together. (Acrylic paint may not be placed over oil paint or the oil paint will break through; after several years of trial-and-error as far as my next step as an artist went, I discovered this unique way of blending acrylic and oil paints on the same canvas without problems.) The motif of this painting (and this more recent series) is simply 4 people standing in a line who are all separate, yet who are all connected The sides of this canvas are a bit larger than normal canvases as I built the frame myself out of 2 x 2 inch strip boards. The sides of the canvas fabric were protected during the time I completed my painted work with strips of masking tape and then the tape removed which left fairly clean white canvas sides. It is a fairly heavy canvas as it is rather large. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email me. Greetings and thank you for looking at my work! My name is Wendy Sue Morris and I have been a working Abstract Expressionist painter for over twenty years. After receiving my Bachelor's of Fine Art degree at San Diego State University, I relocated to Los Angeles where I participated in many group and solo shows, received a highly-competitive Kittredge Grant, had several of my paintings included in the set-design, emmy award-winning television shows, "Hell's Kitchen" and "Master Chef", and also had my mixed-media archival prints accepted into the prestigious Cedars Sinai art collection. Currently, I now reside in Phoenix, Arizona. Please feel free to check out my artist's website as well as my artist statement below which explains a bit more about my work. ARTIST STATEMENT I am in pursuit of a visual solution which will best express the intangible realities lurking behind the human form. My desire as a painter is to capture what it is about us as human beings which makes us complicated and unique"”namely our fragility. Therefore, in all my work realistic depictions of the human figure have been stretched and dismantled in order to portray suggestions of what lies behind the tangible. In this way, my paintings endeavor to pay homage to Abstract Expressionists such as Willem de Kooning, Arshile Gorky and Lee Krasner. However, ultimately my aim is to modify previous styles of figurative abstraction so that contemporary complexities are acknowledged. www.wsmorrisstudio.com www.facebook.com/wsmorrisstudio
