About The Artwork

Abstract acrylic on gallery wrapped archival canvas, all edges painted, no staples, ready for display. Another urge overtook me to do an all over type of action abstraction. Plus I still have so much of this fluid, transparent type of acrylic paint to get through. This one, as with previous action type paintings of mine, is much more of a poured picture rather than a dripped composition. My inspiration of course comes from, Janet Sobel ( bet you thought I was going to say someone else). Ms. Sobel was a Ukrainian born American Abstract Expressionist. The drip painting style was pioneered by Janet Sobel, whose work directly influenced Jackson Pollock. Hans Hofmann also was another early practioner of action painting also greatly influencing Pollock and Lee Krasner. So there were action painters before Pollock, just as there should be action painters after Pollock, who is of course a tremendous influence to me.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist figuration. As an outsider, and on my own, I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and the influential art movements throughout history. One of my goals is to always remain outside the norm. I am heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionists from The New York School. Inspiration also comes to me from the works of Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner. The outsider ideal connects with me thanks to artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Non-comformity defines what art should be. My mission is to create engaging and innovative artworks. I hope to extend an appreciation of artistic expression to a wide audience. The process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. Paint and found material are combined on canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
