About The Artwork
This painting explores the relationship between the concept of paradise and the colour turquoise. Turquoise is repeatedly appropriated into the design of holiday brochures and seems to speak to people of both paradise the idealised place and the elusive experience of the 'paradise feeling'. It's large size engulfs the viewer into the colour, allowing them to exist for a moment in the 'paradise state' and retreat from the reality of our world.

Jo Pye was born in Doncaster in 1990 and brought up near Middlesbrough, North East England. She is a recent graduate of Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art: Painting and Printmaking and studied on Erasmus at The Universität der Künste Berlin. Through her paintings she explores the impact of humanity on the world and the negative environmental and social effects of our consumer society. She has a keen interest in photography and travels widely in some of the most socially and economically challenged parts of the world as part of her research process and inspiration for work. She has a passion for sustainable development and human rights and has worked with charities in Africa, Asia and the UK.
