About The Artwork
The crow in Celtic mythology is a symbol of death but it is also associated with knowledge and was considered a messenger from the other world. 'To have a raven's knowledge' is an Irish proverb. I have lived twice close to rookeries and have drawn their vicious looking claws which when taken with the rough caw, caw, a disturbing sound, can be frightening. A bird not to be trifled with and one that morns its dead. The work is based on observational drawings but is experimental in that it uses paper on paper as part of the drawing.
