Recent ecocritical readings puts the environment, ecology, and wetlands at the center of meaning of Finnegans Wake. The Wake according to these authors (Lacivita and others) maybe is the first major text of modernist literature to express really profound engagement with the environment. In the painting I have illustrated this by circles in what is looking like vegetation in a wetland. Finnegans Wake follow similar ways of temporal cycles of ecological adaptation and resilience, a constant cycling of creation, destruction, return and playfullness. Not the infinity of change- or timelessnes, but rather the process of transformation, descruction, reorganization and retention integral to adaptive survival and vitality of natural and social systems alike. People cannot see this painting of water plants and water circles without projecting their own ideas into it: "...Dolph and Kev (Shem and Shaun) look on the flowing water that creates and carries them and see not only a human mother but female genitalia. For Joyce the violent ignorance of this projection onto the nature is the central drama of Finnegans Wake.

I am a Danish hydrologist currently working as a principal investigator and researcher at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland at Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 in Copenhagen (working in close cooperation with Copenhagen University institute for geology and geography). I am known for my research in the field of hydrogeology, with a focus on groundwater resources and their management, as well as the impact of climate change on groundwater systems. I have published many papers in the international scientific journals, and I am also a member of several scientific organisations.
