About The Artwork
This piece was inspired by a photograph I took of my daughter at a wedding, where she (very tired) decided to lie down on the grass. I began to remember when I was her age, and bored with what the adults were doing, and needing to escape into my imagination. I also began to experience anxiety at seeing her growing up, on the edge of becoming a teenager, and growing into an unstable world that does not treat girls/women equally or value them as individuals, but rather holds girls and woman to standards that are impossible to reach. This is a screenprint monotype, with drawing, painting and collage. I wanted to use an Impressionist-like style to create a sense of beauty, innocence, that i combine with collage to undermine that sense of beauty, safety, goodness.

My work is an investigation of the human psyche, as relates to dreams, memory, and reverie. I am interested also in family systems--their various forms and definitions--using techniques that include layering, fragmentation and appropriation to undermine familiar narratives relating to socially accepted views of the family and its functions.
