About The Artwork

This oil on wooden panel painting is part of an ongoing series of animal portraits, made from found pre 70s print images which contain animal and scientific pictures. Making animals the subject matter and the centre to subvert the modern view that humans are the most important species on earth. This is a simple wormlike animal under magnification, the original image is black and white. The frame has been re used from found waste frames to further the staging using sign writers bronze, acrylic and epoxy filler. This also puts the work within the historical area of traditional gold framed portrait painting of the 17th 18th and 19th centuries. The small scale works best for me especially, for such small animals. Please note that the frame is not perfectly rectangular, the top slopes to the left. I have signed the work on the rear of the painted panel.
