About The Artwork
I had painted a more representational version with recognizable figures and it fell short. I approached again with the intent of expressing the feeling and energy of yoga sessions I'd seen in a park here in Austin. This was a pivotal work for me that re-energized my desire to paint loosely and explore more expressive brushwork. I had been looking at a lot of Cecily Brown. How to paint figures without showing figures? There is thickness to the paint and the ground is cement smoothed over burlap on canvas so there is an interesting and varied texture to the piece.
