About The Artwork

The Cerro Quemado hill at sunrise in Wirikuta, Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, July 25, 2014. Wirikuta is a sacred place for the Wirrarika Huichol Indians and is threatened by First Majestic Silver, a Canadian silver mining company that operates in Mexico, which obtained permission from the Mexican government for its proposed La Luz Silver Project for the extraction of silver in the Sierra Decatorce. Although Wirikuta is protected at national and international levels the Mexican authorities gave the permission to mining in this sacred place. The mining site represents a threat to the environment balance and health of the population in the area.
