Elina's practice begins with an introspective consideration of her dreams, memories and self-analyses, which she then expands to the wider social, religious and political setting, searching for similarities and connections. She feels that it is important for her work to have meaning in a wider context so that viewers can engage with it. Elina's aim is to establish a connection with the audience and communicate her inner person and emotions. Her philosophical approach is similar to that of Marina Abramovic, who has been a major influence on Elina's work. They both engage the minds of viewers and move them to self-analysis. Elina also feels that her work is similar to that of Ana Mendiete, as they both provoke a deep empathetic response that forces people to re-examine their view of the world. Elina uses a combination drawing, photography, performance, video or sculpture, depending on the project, to create installations. The combining of different mediums is intended to create a powerful impact on the viewer. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in colour, using different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings. Although there may not always be material similarities between projects, they are linked by recurring subject matter and colour. The concrete, repetitive nature of Elina's work frees her imagination and provides many opportunities for happy accident to influence the finished product. The soft and strong colours she uses establish a dream-like surreal quality and suggest notions of calmness and safety, unifying the disparate objects in each installation. Elina's current work is based on a fascination with concepts and measurements of time, especially the transient quality of time, and how these relate to human actions. She is interested in examining the inter-connectivity of our sense of agency, determinism, the climate and time to consider how these control live events.
