Falling Lego Man - Cyanotype Photograph

This is my first series using cyanotype. Using the beautiful May sunshine to print using this old technique. I particularly love the deep blue produced by the reaction with UV rays from the sun. Usually, cyanotype is used for botanic subjects and photography (printing negatives). I wanted to experiment with everyday objects and give them some symbolic. Here, a Lego minifigure looks like he is falling, plummeting to his/her demise. I have used the shadow cast by the lego bricks to give depths to this piece. I realised afterwards that it evokes to me the opening sequence of the Mad Men series. This simple toy from the attic, used to produce this art piece in the garden of our family country house, with so many memories, acts as a reflexion, with the milestone of midlife passing. As an adult, we are supposed to be in control. But are we ever really?
