About The Artwork
The Gion Festival is one of the most famous festivals in Japan and takes place annually in Kyoto during the month of July. The festival is named after the Gion district of Kyoto, which is famous for its traditional buildings, geisha culture, and local cuisine. The festival dates back over 1,000 years and is steeped in tradition. The main event of the festival is the Yamaboko Junko, a procession of elaborately decorated floats that are pulled through the streets of Kyoto by teams of men in traditional clothing. The floats are adorned with lanterns, tapestries, and other decorations, and each one represents a different neighborhood in Kyoto © 2022 Hwan Kim . All rights reserved.
