About The Artwork

Currently, my photography is relying less on digital manipulation, and more on mixed media portraits. This series of work will focus on abstract contouring of the skull, topographic lines and mapping of the skin. My skin is the mask that covers the deformity that is hidden from society, the shape of my skull and its overall shape has been mediated by 25 plates and screws. I will show this deformity by combining many altered portraits that use topology and Cartesian systems which allows me to take over the skin and owning it under my own terms. Using these portraits that have been previously altered and combining parts of the face/skin together allows me to use collage to create my own death mask. These masks are meant to speak to how I have lived the life of two different people; one repulsive and the now, attractive. These masks are used to re create the first half of my life, a memory, the first part of my life that cannot be reversed back, since the corrective process is permanent, these are the death masks of my grotesque identity.
