About The Artwork

Recomposition No. 09 is a piece from the New York City BAUHAUS: Oculus series that combines digital painting with photography. The artwork features the Oculus building in downtown New York City and blends it into a geometrical composition. The photograph adds texture, light, and historical elements to the piece, making it less abstract on closer inspection. It carries a narrative that reflects the dramatic history of the place. The central yellow triangle may represent a falling piece or a tall building with its shadow. The black lines forming stairs may symbolize the gradual and resilient process of rebuilding, recovery, and ascent from tragedy or a blockage. The blue form partially concealing the stairs may point to the ongoing effects of the traumatic history that preceded them. However, the dominant bold reds and deep blues represent the American spirit, reflecting patriotism and the collective strength of the nation. The use of colors makes the picture hopeful despite its somber undertones. Each artwork in the New York City BAUHAUS: Oculus series has rhythm, color scheme, and meaning. The series explores layers of cultures, humanity, and landscape, seeing buildings with their architecture as modifications of urban space at a specific time, reflecting the technology and the understanding of humanity, but also with their history and place in personal and collective memory.

I am a New Yorker from Queens. When I started drawing in my teenage years, my father taught me to look at the architecture of Bucharest, Romania, with a keen eye for perspective, balance, and proportions. Analytic perception has accompanied me ever since. Arriving in New York City, my photographic interest turned to the city's signature architecture. I systematically explored specific themes, such as the effects of light or the perception of waves. I have exhibited my artwork in group shows at the Huntington Arts Council in New York (2020), LIK Gallery in Vienna (2021), and online at the Visual Artists Association in London (2023). My latest work, "New York City Bauhaus," explores trans-artistic movements in the US. One piece was included in a juried exhibition at The CENTER for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, NJ (early 2024), and another was displayed at the Atlantic Gallery in NYC in March 2024.
